After launching the EP Again, Pt.1 in 2021, which paid tribute to some of their favorite artists, Canada’s legendary electro-pop group Men Without Hats will release Again, Pt. 2 on March 11 via Sonic Envy, the first album of original songs in 10 years.
Led by brothers Ivan and Colin Doruschuk, the group has been completed since 2016 by veteran guitarist Sho Murray. Themes explored on Again, Pt. 2 reflect the band’s unique take on the current state of the planet (“If the World Should End Today,” “The Human Race”), love (“All Into Stars,” “The Love Inside Your Heart”, “When Does Love Begin”), the meaning of life (“Just Another Day”, “Nancy’s Room”, “Where the Wild Go”), and the state of the art (“My Love”, “Heaven”, “My Own Advice”).
“The new record is the spiritual follow-up to Pop Goes The World, in the fact that a lot of the same themes are being explored, such as freedom, human rights, and the ecology. The songwriting stretches back 40 years and is reflected in the diversity of the music, with intros and musical interludes, much like Pop Goes The World. It’s a much more orchestral record than the last one (Love In The Age Of War) in the same way that Pop was a lot grander in scope than Rhythm of Youth. It is also a very personal record, that morphed over time from a solo piano project into a full-blown Men Without Hats album. ” said lead vocalist Ivan Doroschuk.
With a clever mix of digital and analog technology (including a real Prophet 5 synthesizer that was used during the recording sessions of “The Safety Dance”, Men Without Hats continues their epic journey into the world of synth-pop, rooted in their glorious past and hardened by their life experience and commitment to the future.
For the past 10 years, Men Without Hats have toured the world with the cream of 1980s royalty, playing for crowds in North and South America, Europe, Scandinavia, Jamaica, Australia, Mexico, and South Africa, reaching even more fans and countries than before. The unique sound and message of Men Without Hats resonates with a new generation of fans who long to understand and appreciate the influences of the 1980s in their current sound.
As part of their 40th anniversary, Men Without Hats saw their songs “The Safety Dance” and “Pop Goes The World” inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. 2022 is also the 40th anniversary of the group’s debut album Rhythm Of Youth. The group is currently planning a Canadian tour as well as tours in the United States, Great Britain, and Europe.
