This was the first of eight shows for 54-40‘s unplugged tour in Ontario. The show go underway just after 7:30 p.m. with a video montage of celebrities and musicians introducing 54-40.  Included in the video were Jann Arden, Rick Mercer, Hugh Dillon of The Headstones, Spenny (Kenny vs. Spenny), the Odds, Tragically Hip, Dan Aykroyd and more!

54-40 played two sets plus an encore consisting many hits spanning from the band’s 30+ years including Lost and Lazy, This Is Here This Is Now, One Gun, Crossing A Canyon, She La, Laughing, Lucy, and Baby Ran (on which singer Neil Osbourne played the banjo!). I Go Blind and Ocean Pearl concluded the night as the encore.

Having seen the band numerous times in the past, this had to be one of the better shows I’ve seen by them. Hearing the songs stripped down and still sounding great and timeless, 54-40 proved they still have what it takes to remain a staple in Canadian music.

54-40 just released an album called La Difference: A History Unplugged. This is the first of two acoustic albums 54-40 is releasing with the other one to be released later this year.

If you can, I’d recommend going to catch these guys on this acoustic tour. To see where else they will be playing click here.

54-40 is:

Neil Osbourne (vocals)
Matt Johnson (drums)
Brad Merritt (bass)
Dave Genn (guitars, keyboards)
