The Danforth Music Hall in Toronto hosted 80’s British pop phenomenon Bananarama recently. The sold out show marked the first time the band performed here in 30 years.
I really wasn’t sure what to expect from this performance but the reality is, their harmonizing vocals sent chills down the back of my neck. Someone commented about the possibility of it being lip synched but I can attest that there was definitely live singing going on. Their backup band provided an album quality set, accentuating the ladies’ pitch perfect intonation.
These bombshells sang all their vintage hits and then some. Performing a 19 song set, they included a hand full of cover songs from The Supremes, Black Blood and Steam – to name a few.
The chemistry these ladies shared was palpitable. At multiple times they would exchange smiles and hugs with each other.
I enjoyed spending the evening reliving my teen years, as did the other thousand people in attendance.
