American new wave/punk band Blondie, fronted by Debbie Harry, is heading back to Artpark July 25 and this time they will be sharing the stage with Garbage and L.A. band Deap Vally when they bring their tour, The Rage and Rapture Tour, to Lewiston, NY for the 2017 Tuesday Night Summer Concert Series at the Artpark Amphitheater.
Blondie, who last graced the Artpark stage in 2015 with Melissa Etheridge, was formed in the 1970’s by Harry and guitarist Chris Stein. Blondie became regular fixtures at Max’s Kansas City and CBGB’s. To date, the band has released 11 studio albums with the latest being Pollinator, released May 5, 2017.
In March 2006, Blondie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame following an introductory speech given by Shirley Manson of Garbage.
The current line-up for Blondie also includes drummer Clem Burke, guitarist Tommy Kessler, bassist Leigh Foxx and keyboardist Matt Katz-Bohen. Expect to hear such hits as Call Me, Rapture and Heart of Glass when Blondie takes over the stage Tuesday night.
Also on the bill is Garbage, an American alternative rock band formed in Madison, Wisconsin in 1993. The band consists of Scottish vocalist Shirley Manson along with Duke Erikson (bass, rhythm guitar, keyboards), Steve Marker (lead guitar) and Butch Vig (drums).
Garbage has accumulated worldwide album sales of over 17 million units. Their debut album, Garbage, sold over 4 million copies and was certified double platinum in the UK, US, and Australia while accompanied by a string of successful hits in 1995–1996, including Stupid Girl and Only Happy When It Rains. The follow-up, Version 2.0, was released in 1998 after a year of production, had an equal commercial success, topping the UK Albums Chart and getting nominations for two Grammy Awards. Garbage followed this up by performing and co-producing the theme song to the nineteenth James Bond movie The World Is Not Enough.
Despite critical acclaim, Garbage‘s 2001 third album Beautiful Garbage failed to match the commercial success achieved by its predecessors. Garbage quietly disbanded amidst the troubled production of their fourth album Bleed Like Me, but regrouped to complete the album and released it in 2005. It peaked at a career-high No. 4 in the US. The band cut short their concert tour in support of Bleed Like Me announcing an “indefinite hiatus”, emphasizing that they had not broken up, but wished to pursue personal interests.
Garbage got back together to record new tracks in 2007 for the greatest hits retrospective Absolute Garbage and ultimately regrouped in 2011 releasing Not Your Kind of People in 2012 and Strange Little Birds in 2016.
Opening the show is Los Angeles female duo Deep Vally featuring Lindsey Troy and Julie Edwards. The band formed in March 2011 and their album, Femejism, comes out July 21.
General Admission tickets for Blondie and Garbage are still available for $12 advance or $17 week of show (Sun-Tues) and can be purchased at the Artpark box office or online. For more details visit the Artpark website here.
