A Day To Remember brings “Just Some More Shows” tour to Pikeville, Kentucky with Beartooth and Bad Omens
Pikeville, KY received a metal heart attack on August 24th, 2022! A Day To Remember, Beartooth and Bad Omens ripped the Appalachian Wireless Arena to shreds! Metalheads poured into the Appalachian Wireless Arena, ready to feel the ground shake from the deep bass, the face-melting guitars, the thunderous drums, the loud, ear-pleasing vocals, and last but not least, the heaviest breakdowns, making you feel like the Incredible Hulk has taken over your soul! These three amazing groups did not disappoint, grabbing my attention faster than an animal running in front of a car! After about a 3-month hiatus, I returned to the concert scene, and boy, did I ever catch the concert fever again! It hit my heart like a bolt of lightning! I knew that it was time to start picking up where I left off, so be on the lookout for more reviews! Without further ado, let’s jump in about this beyond-amazing metal show!
Bad Omens is a band I’ve been dying to see. Especially after their new album “The Death Of Peace Of Mind” dropped. This album brought me closer to the band. I had already been a fan, but listening to this album made me truly realize what a superb group this is. Realizing they were going to be in my backyard, I had to jump on the opportunity to see them. Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Bad Omens got their start in 2015, releasing their debut album a year later. The lineup for Bad Omens consists of “Noah Sebastian – Lead Vocals”, “Joakim Karlsson – Guitar”, ‘Nicholas Ruffilo – Bass”, “Nick Folio – Drums”. Ecstatic doesn’t even come close to describing how I felt watching Bad Omens perform! You have to see them for yourselves to understand that rare feeling you receive! Anyway, on to the details of the show! Bad Omens hit the stage and right from the start, they opened with the powerful “The Death Of Peace Of Mind” followed by “Artificial Suicide”. Wow! I’m hooked immediately! Noah’s heart-stopping voice filled the arena and I’m positive when I say, I saw some jaws drop to the floor, including mine! I couldn’t believe the sound that was coming from these 4! Bad Omens touched Pikeville’s heart in a way it was never touched before. It’s safe to say, the crowd left with Bad Omen’s merch and a lot of it! There was one song I was most excited to hear, “Like A Villain” and let me be the first to tell you, that song absolutely went through my body like The Flash himself had struck me! I felt a warmth come over me. This music is so beautiful, so outstanding, it spoke to me in a way. That’s what concerts are all about. Feeling good and enjoying the music you love! Also, shoutout to Sirius XM’s “Octane”, channel 37, for showing Bad Omens some love, spinning “Like A Villain” constantly. The 4 guys that are Bad Omens left an impression on me that will never be forgotten. Thank you all for putting on a glorious show for Pikeville that will be remembered forever! If they ever come around your area, please see them. Your ears will thank you later!
Next on the bill, was none other than Columbus, Ohio’s Beartooth.
I’m no stranger to Beartooth. I saw these guys once before in Huntington, WV. They were with A Day To Remember on that tour as well. I knew deep in my heart that Beartooth was going to blow the roof off the arena, and I’ll be 100% honest, they did way more than just blow the roof off! They tore the whole arena down! Starting out with “The Lines” and “Devastation”, the crowd went insane! Caleb Shomo, vocalist for Beartooth, was running in every direction! I couldn’t keep up with him! He was bringing the energy of metal into the Appalachian Wireless Arena! Caleb said it was time to party in Pikeville, and boy that was an understatement. It turned into an all-out metal fest!
Once Beartooth brought in “Bad Listener”, that’s when it all broke loose! The pit opened, bringing forth the famous “Mosh Pit”!!!! Right before my very eyes, was indeed, a ginormous circle pit that was getting bigger and bigger as the show progressed! My word, Beartooth’s breakdowns were so heavy, that I felt like I had gained Superman’s powers! It wasn’t enough that “Bad Listener” tore everything all to pieces, but “Disease” hit, it went up another level!! By this point in time, Beartooth had started destruction. They came to
show Pikeville what Beartooth was all about, and I believe, within all my heart, Pikeville understands what Beartooth is. If no one figured out by then, they were going to learn when their last song “The Last Riff” started! This is an instrumental from Beartooth off their latest release, “Below”. During this song, Caleb jumped off the stage, jumped the barricade, ran through the pit, up the stars on the right side, and flew back down to the stage, all while playing guitar. Now tell me Beartooth doesn’t know what heavy metal is all about!
Please see Beartooth if they come around your city. I promise you will leave a fan! These guys don’t give a bad show, EVER! Check them out if you haven’t. You’ll be thankful you did!!
Beartooth line up: “Caleb Shomo – Lead Vocals”, “Zach Huston – Lead Guitar”, “Will Deely – Rhythm Guitar”, “Oshie Bichar – Bass”, “Connor Denis – Drums”
Finally, the main attraction for the night, A Day To Remember.
A Day To Remember hails from Ocala, Florida. Getting their start in 2003, A Day To Remember would release their debut album “And Their Name Was Treason” 2 years later. From that point on, A Day To Remember would make history! They opened their set with “The Downfall of Us All”. Pikeville Went berserk! This is who they have been waiting on all night! The pit became bigger, and the breakdowns became heavier! Everyone was so pumped to experience the smackdown that A Day To Remember was about to lie down! Right before they went into “Degenerates”, the pit became a bit too crazy and someone was injured. The person survived but was taken out on a stretcher. Please be safe while moshing, metal community. We all want to have a great time, but be safe while doing it. After the person was alright, they started the show back up and everything went as planned!
Hearing “Last Chance To Dance (Bad Friend)”, made the whole show for me! One of my favorite A Day To Remember songs that have been released! One of the heaviest songs they’ve cut, by far! Wait! Here comes “Miracle”! This is their newest song recorded and oh man, it brings the house down! So heavy! Just when I thought it couldn’t get heavier, A Day To Remember always brings tricks out of the bag. They throw out “Mr. Highway’s Thinking About The End”! I’m in a metal trance! I can’t believe how heavy this show is. I’ve experienced heaviness from Bad Omens and Beartooth, but gee whiz, A Day To Remember added 10x the heaviness to the bill! Not to mention, they performed four encores! Four! Usually, you’ll see bands do one or two, maybe even three, but it’s unusual, to me anyway, to see a band do four encores! I think it’s astounding! Once again, A Day To Remember caught my attention and showed me just how much they love performing! I left the show a bigger fan than I was. If I have a chance to see any of the three bands I talked about, I will jump on it as quickly as I can, and you should do the same!
A Day To Remember lineup: “Jeremy McKinnon – Lead Vocals”, “Kevin Skaff – Lead Guitar”, “Neil Westfall – Rhythm Guitar”, “Alex Shelnutt – Drums”
To sum it up, these three bands put on an astonishing show. One that Pikeville will have in its heart forever. Bad Omens, Beartooth, and A Day To Remember left their mark and if you ask me, it will be a permanent one! Thank you to the Appalachian Wireless Arena, Josh Kesler, and all that was involved for bringing such amazing talent to the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, and thank you to Bad Omens, Beartooth, and A Day To Remember for stopping in Pikeville to give us a tremendous metal show!
