Last Friday night saw the return of classic rockers Foreigner to Seneca Niagara Casino in Niagara Falls, NY. The band cranked out hit after hit from its 40-year span starting the night off with Double Vision, Head Games, Cold As Ice and Waiting For A Girl. In total the band played 11-songs in 90 minutes.
Missing Friday night was co-founder/guitarist Mick Jones, the only remaining original member of Foreigner. Due to health reasons, Jones does not tour full-time with the band. Guitarist/saxophonist Tom Gimbel (who has been with Foreigner full-time since 1995), is the next longest remaining member while bassist Jeff Pilson (ex-Dokken and Dio) and singer Kelly Hansen (ex-Hurricane) have been with Foreigner since 2004 and 2005 respectively. Rounding out the band Friday night was keyboardist Michael Bluestein who joined in 2008, guitarist Bruce Watson (ex-Rod Stewart), who joined in 2011, and drummer Chris Frazier who joined in 2012.
There are talks of 40th anniversary celebrations in 2017 which will include original surviving Foreigner members Lou Gramm, guitarist/keyboardist/saxophonist Ian McDonald, drummer Dennis Elliott and keyboardist Al Greenwood. To read about this and more check out our recent interview with Tom Gimbel here.
All in all, the Foreigner fans saw Friday night delivered a great, energetic show. Foreigner failed to disappoint and was a definite hit for all in attendance.
A special thanks to John Lappen for setting this all up for me.
