It will be a great night of classic rock when two bands come back to Artpark for the third time each but the first time together. .38 Special and George Thorogood & the Destroyers will perform in Lewiston, NY on August 1 as part of the 2017 Tuesday Night Summer Concert Series at the Artpark Amphitheater.
.38 Special got their start in Jacksonville, Florida in 1974 when two neighborhood friends, Don Barnes and Donnie Van Zant, decided to form a band. Over the years the band has gone through several member changes with the current line-up being vocalist/guitarist Don Barnes, guitarist Danny Chauncey, keyboardist Bobby Capps, drummer Gary Moffatt and bassist Barry Dunaway.
The band has released 12 studio albums, the last being Drivertrain (2004). .38 Special, known for such hits as Rockin’ into the Night, Hold On Loosely, Caught Up in You, If I’d Been the One, Back Where You Belong, Like No Other Night and more, previously played at Artpark on July 12, 2011 and Aug 6, 2013.
George Thorogood began as a solo acoustic artist in the early 70s before forming a band, the Delaware Destroyers, with high school friend/drummer Jeff Simon and was a staple of 1980s rock radio, with original hit songs Bad to the Bone and I Drink Alone. He has also helped popularize older songs by American icons, such as Move It on Over, Who Do You Love? and House Rent Boogie/One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer.
George Thorogood & the Destroyers have released 17 studio albums, the last being 2120 South Michigan Ave. in 2011. Thorogood will be releasing his first solo album on August 4 called Party of One.
The Destroyers includes Jeff Simon on drums and percussion, Billy Blough on bass, Jim Suhler on rhythm guitar and Buddy Leach on saxophone and piano. George Thorogood & the Destroyers previously played Artpark on July 27, 2010 and Aug 23, 2011.
