The 1720 club is an experience altogether, located in the heart of Los Angeles, what looks to be an industrial section but don’t let that deceive you. Inside is a state of the art club, with a sound system that will blow your socks off. Arriving early to conduct interviews a line was starting to form which was nice to see. There were six bands playing, so these diehards will have plenty of metal to ring their ears!
After sitting down with Granny the ˈMatriarch of Metalˈ for our chat, it was time for Granny 4 Barrel to hit the stage. Looking back at Granny’s past, a colorful one, she’s come along way. We have the Butcher (guitarist), the Maestro (violinist), the Judge (drummer) and ole whipper snapper Granny who holds nothing back and lets it all hang out! Interesting, there is no bassist.
Granny wasted no time getting the fans’ fists pumping, in a full out frenzy during their brand of “avant-garde theatrical shock-rock Victorian-era look, mix it up with a hybrid style of music” rocking our faces off with their two recent singles, Freak Flag and She Likes Guns. The Judge is continually holding court, I don’t think he even has a drum stool, the Butcher either had a lovely feast beforehand, or shredding the guitar drew blood, the Maestro looking dapper in his tails and top hat, and Granny she stole the hearts of the fans. The thirty-minute set was only an appetizer of the performance, excellent musicianship and energy; this first impression was a good one, I loved them. With talks of a full-length album in the works, Deal with the Devil: A Compendium of Wicked Sonic Schemes, by Granny 4 Barrel.” The future is looking bright for Granny 4 Barrel.
If you see Granny 4 Barrel on the bill, make sure you check them out, you won’t be disappointed.
