Hall & Oates with KT Tunstall
Big Sandy Superstore Arena
Huntington, West Virgina
August 19, 2019
The hit-making machine that is Hall & Oates made a stop in West Virginia and the fans that filled up the Big Sandy Superstore Arena were READY for the music magic that these two make! But Hall & Oates weren’t by themselves for this stop. Nope, they had KT Tunstall (speaking of hit music makers) along for the ride.
KT got this night started with Miniature Disasters – a song off her multi-platinum selling debut album Eye to the Telescope following that with Little Red Thread for 2018’s album Wax. Standing center stage with just an acoustic guitar and keyboard she kept the big West Virginia crowd engaged and entertained throughout her set. She had a couple of cool covers amongst her originals Walk Like an Egyptian and Black Betty but most in attendance were waiting to hear her Grammy-nominated break out single Black Horse and the Cherry Tree and she did not disappoint! Tunstall finished her set with Suddenly I See bringing to a close a great collection of songs that had this crowd ready for what was to come!
What was to come, you ask? Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame members Daryl Hall and John Oates collectively known to the world as Hall & Oates – that’s what!
Reading over the setlist from tonight’s show is like ready a top 40 greatest hits collection. Chances are one or more of their songs have been part of your life’s soundtrack, like tonight’s opening song Maneater. Yes, the opening song tonight has been a monster hit since 1982 and that was their opening song! What does that say about the rest of the night? Well get your singing voices ready and your dancing shoes on because you are in for a great night of music! Since we’re talking about dancing and singing the next song Out Of Touch from 1984’s Big Bam Boom album had fans doing just that, dancing and singing, in the aisles, at their seats or wherever they happened to be in the Big Sandy Superstore Arena. And so the night went, hit song after hit song. Method of Modern Love, One on One, Say It Isn’t So even a cover song made its way into the set You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’ (The Righteous Brothers) before closing out the set with another mega-hit I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do).
But Hall & Oates wasn’t quite ready to be done with Huntington and Huntington was not ready for this night to be over. How about a four-song encore? Sure why not! That encore started with Rich Girl then to Kiss on My List followed by Private Eyes and bringing this amazing night of incredible music to a close with You Make My Dreams from 1980’s Voices.
Hall & Oates have been making hit music for a long time and judging from what I saw in West Virginia tonight, they show no signs of slowing down.
If you were a fan or are still a fan, do not miss this tour! Great music played and sang to perfection!
If you were one of the lucky ones that got to witness this show at Big Sandy Superstore Area, you witnessed not only some incredible music but incredible lights and sound and as always a top-notch staff!
