Kris Barclay, 23 year old singer/songwriter from Ajax, Ontario, started playing guitar at the age of 13, but did not start performing publicly until the end of his Junior and University hockey career at the age of 20. Starting out playing solo acoustic shows and local bars, Kris quickly developed a passion for music and performing in front of people and began getting on stage every opportunity he could. After playing several acoustic shows and developing his craft, he eventually found other musicians and since has performed at multiple venues across Ontario, including The Corral (Oshawa), E.P.Taylor’s (Durham College/UOIT Campus Bar), Isaac’s Bar and Grill (Brock University Campus Bar), and more including cities such as Lindsay, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, and Toronto to name a few.
Kris’s passion for music evolved into writing and creating his own songs, both solo and collaboration projects with other writers. “The feeling you get when a song that you’ve created connects with someone is incredible, there’s nothing like it”, he says. His writing has taken him to Nashville and back and also into the studio, having recently completed his first demo, which was produced by singer/songwriter and multi Juno Award winning artist, Brian Good of The Good Brothers.
Opening for some of the incredible talent in Canadian Country Music, such as The Good Brothers, Kira Isabella, and Tim Hicks, have further inspired Kris to pursue his music career as he plans to expand on his demo project and continue to write in the hopes of completing a full album and eventually releasing his first single. His love for the stage has him excited to get on the road as he says, “My bags are packed!”.
