(Niagara Falls, NY) – It’s hard to believe Canadian band Men Without Hats has been around over 30 years! Currently on a U.S. tour, Men Without Hats started its U.S. run at the Bear’s Den located in Seneca Niagara Casino.
A small venue which holds about 500 people, the show drew about half of its capacity. I thought being at the Canadian border the place would be packed. After all, Men Without Hats doesn’t come around here too often.
Singer Ivan Doroschuk (the only remaining original member) was in fine form. He sounded just as great as he did back in the 80’s. The band, which also inlcudes guitarist James Love and keyboardists Lou Dawson and Rachel Ashmore, played over an hour.
All the favourites were played including Where Do the Boys Go?, Pop Goes the World, On Tuesday and of course, The Safety Dance – played both acoustically and shortly after, the extended, full-band version which got the crowd standing up and dancing.
Men Without Hats also played tracks from its latest album called Love In the Age of War, their seventh studio album released in 2012. Devil Come Round from that album was part of a two-song encore along with Living in China – off 1982’s Rhythm of Youth.
Definitely one of my favourite shows so far this summer. If you ever get the chance to see Men Without Hats I would highly recommend it!
