(Ringle, WI) – How many times have you gone to multi band shows and sat patiently through forgettable opening acts in order to get to the headliner that you really came to see, or came in late just to bypass the process all together? Lucky for me, on July 31st I decided to show up early to the Q and Z Expo Center in rural Ringle, WI. for Crobot’s “Drunk as Shit Tour” and caught the opening set from Mothership.
Consisting of brothers Kelley Juett (guitar / vocals), Kyle Juett (Bass / Vocals) and drummer Judge Smith, the Texas trio harken back to the days when the riff was king. Their self described “Supersonic Intergalactic Heavy Rock” blending just the right amount of Sabbath like sludge, screaming “New Wave of British Heavy Metal” guitars and fuzzed out Texas boogie.
Delivering a 5 song set of sweaty, swaggering riffage that pulled mostly from their self released eponymous debut, the band strutted and headbanged their way through an all too brief set that left the small but enthusiastic crowd screaming for more.
With the music industry seemingly on life support, unwilling or unable to invest in rock n roll, it’s a surprising breath of fresh air to catch a band seemingly out of nowhere that is just all about unashamedly bringing a beer drinking, hard rocking good time to people.
Head over the the band’s website www.mothershipusa.com for all things Mothership.
