Have you heard? Earlier this week, Journey released their first new song in 10 years called The Way We Used To Be, their first new song since the 2011 album Eclipse. The song, released on June 24th, also marks the first recording for Journey‘s two newest members – keyboardist Jason Derlatka and drummer Narada Michael Walden (who has produced hits for such artists as Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey). It’s also the first Journey song since 1986 to feature bassist Randy Jackson who rejoined Journey last year. Vocals are handled by singer Armel Pineda, who has been with Journey since 2007. Long-time Journey members Neal Schon (guitars) and Jonathan Cain (keyboards) round out the band.
Walden produced the new song, with co-production from Schon and Cain. The song’s video is an animated video from directors Andrew Seth Cohen and Ryan Kieffer, and it tells the story of a couple who makes it through a long, lonely stretch of pandemic — complete with masks magically appearing on their faces — to finally find redemption at a post-pandemic Journey show.
A new album from Journey is currently in the works. In the meantime, if you’re in the Chicago area this summer you can catch Journey headlining Lollapalooza. Tickets now available at lollapalooza.com
Some of Journey‘s hits include Faithfully, Open Arms, Wheel In the Sky, Don’t Stop Believin’, Lights, Separate Ways, Any Way You Want It, Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’ and many more!
