Ottawa’s Paragon Cause releases anti-holiday song Let Me Be

Let Me Be, the newest single from Ottawa’s Paragon Cause, sees the band mix their characteristic indie/electronic sound with a touch of 60’s Soul, adding just a hint of Gospel as a refreshing tonic to the stress of the holidays, making it their official anti-holiday song.  The song is an emotional plea, both musically and lyrically, to reminisce about a time when people appreciated the simpler things in life. It represents an admission that the current trend toward commercialism in the world is too much, and sometimes, we all need a break.

Like the duo’s recent album Lies Between Us (2019) and their upcoming 2020 album What We Started they recorded Let Me Be during their sessions with musician/producer Sune Rose Wagner from Danish pop sensations The Raveonettes. Sune Rose’s fingerprints are all over the song, from the lo-fi reverb drenched drums to the inspired harmonies influenced by some of the great 60’s soul singers.

The song was originally written as a sonic homage to Jane’s Addiction but slowly evolved into a soul and gospel inspired song closer aligned with the theme and message of the song. The goal, was to transport one back to their childhood when the holidays really were that, a holiday, not a time to be overcome with stress.

“We wanted to write a song that allowed you to stop for a moment, relax, and just forget about the stress of any holiday and be left alone while the world spins around you” said vocalist Michelle Opthof.
