Last Saturday the night belonged to Shania Twain, the Queen of Country, as she rolled into Hamilton’s FirstOntario Centre as part of the Canadian leg of her Now Tour. The sweltering heat did not keep fans from catching one of Canada’s own for a night of glitz, glamour, dance and music!
But before Twain took over the stage, Switzerland’s Bastian Baker got the night underway with a 30-minute acoustic set playing songs which included his latest single Love On Fire and a cover of Hallelujah by Canada’s own, the late Leonard Cohen.
The platinum selling singer/songwriter was a great way to start the night and ease into what was yet to come! Check out our interview with Bastian Baker here.
After a short break Twain’s two-hour set got underway at about 9pm with her entering from the back of the arena down a set of stairs, escorted by security, going through the crowd high-fiving fans and making her way to the front and onstage. Her set started off with Life’s About to Get Good followed by Come On Over, Up! and Poor Me.
The show was filled with many of her hits along with songs off her latest release Now. Twain was backed by a great band along with dancers. Videos and laser lights added to the show. There was multiple outfit changes and lots going on – lots to see and hear – there was never a dull moment!
One of the night’s highlights included Twain floating over the crowd in a guitar shaped swing while singing You’re Still the One. She traveled all the way back to the other end of the arena and landed on a small stage setup in front of the soundboard.
Towards the end of her main set, Bastian Baker came back out to perform two songs with Twain – Party for Two and Swingin’ With My Eyes Closed. The set ended with (If You’re Not in It for Love) I’m Outta Here!
Twain along with her band and dancers all left the stage but fans weren’t ready to leave just yet. After chanting loudly for more, Twain came back out to play a couple more songs – Man! I Feel Like a Woman! and Rock This Country!
It wasn’t long before fans were piling back out into the streets and back into the heat after spending the last two hours witnessing Shania at her best! I’m sure this won’t be the last we see of her or Bastian Baker!
