(Hamilton, ON) – The Northern Pikes have always been one of my favourite bands. Growing up with their music since high school they have been a mainstay in Canadian music for over 30 years with such hits as Teenland, Girl With A Problem, She Ain’t Pretty, Things I Do For Money, Place That’s Insane, Hopes Go Astray, Dream Away, Kiss Me You Fool and many others. Now a three-piece band (Merl Bryck is no longer with The Pikes but he does join them on occasion) Jay Semko, Bryan Potvin and Don Schmid stopped at This Ain’t Hollywood for a sold out show, the last of four shows in Ontario, as part of their “Power Trio 2015” tour.
The club was jammed packed and hot as The Northern Pikes took over the stage just after 10 p.m. to a much enthusiastic crowd. They opened the show with Teenland, the band’s first big hit which came out in 1987, off the debut album Big Blue Sky. That was followed by Hopes Go Astray, Blue Summer and It’s A Good Life.
For over 90 minutes the band played hit after hit, showing they still deserve to be on stage playing the music that has been enjoyed by fans all across Canada for over three decades.
Although the members have had other projects over the years and have lives outside of music, the chemistry between band members is still strong to this day. Never a dull moment when The Northern Pikes go on stage.
This short tour also had The Northern Pikes playing two sold out shows in Bayfield, Ontario and the night before Hamilton they headlined the Light of Day benefit concert in Kingston, Ontario.
The Northern Pikes are definitely worth seeing if you ever get the chance!
