The O’Jays with Average White Band

This week’s Tuesdays In the Park show at Artpark had a great double bill featuring Average White Band and The O’Jays.
The night got underway at 6:30 PM with Scottish funkers Average White Band playing a 45-minute set. The band, together since 1972, features original members Alan Gorrie and Onnie McIntyre along with Fred Vigdor, Cliff Lyons, Rocky Bryant, Brent Carter and Rob Aries. They played many of their hits including their million-selling instrumental track Pick Up the Pieces. A perfect warm-up for The O’Jays!
The O’Jays came on stage right at 8 PM. Original members Eddie Levert and Walter Williams along with long time member Eric Nolan Grant came out in baby blue suits. Backed by a band of over 10 musicians, The O’Jays were spread out front coming together every now and then to sing in harmony.
The O’Jays recently released their final studio album, The Last Word on April 19 and this tour is being billed as their last. The crowd was really into it singing and dancing along to their many hits including Love Train, Now That We Found Love, and ending the night with For the Love of Money.
At age 77, Levert still sounds fantastic and these veterans showed fans they still have great musicianship.
If you missed this show, you missed your last chance to catch these Hall of Famers and missed another exquisite summer concert at Artpark’s Tuesdays In the Park.
